冒号后面首字母大写吗

分两种情况，英语冒号后面如果是一个句子，其开头首字母大写，如The angels told the shepherds The special boy had been born .

如果不是句子则不大写，如The universes means the earth, the sun, the moon and the stars

1、当组织机构的名字没有被明确指出时，不需要首字母大写（大写就是为了强调），例如

John is an officer with the New York Police Department, the largest municipal police department in the United States.

约翰是美国最大市警察部门——纽约警察厅的一名职员。

2、而当头衔和称呼在名字之后就不用首字母大写，如

The conference will be led by Bill Gates, the chairman of Microsoft.

董事会任命比尔·盖茨为微软总裁。

3、方向指示有时候需要大写，有时不需要。有特定地理区域则需要首字母大写，例如

Growing up in a military family, Hunter spent many years in the Far East.

在一个军人家庭中长大，亨特在远东待了很多年。

当它只是一个具象的概念，表示基本方向时，不需要首字母大写，如The storm is moving north at 17 miles per hour.

龙卷风以每小时17英里的速度向北移动。
